SNMP (simple Network management protocol)

• maages devices on LAN or WAN
• app layer protocol port no. 161& 162
• used to monitor network , detect network faults, configure remote devices
• components
  • snmp manager - runs client program - acess values/ info stored in database
  • snmp agent - server program - keep information in database - agent variable
    • no. of packets reviced and forwarded , manger monitoe these values , weather route conjusted or not
    • checks enviornment and send warning
